Pictures of my Reading at Art Exhibition „Kunst in der Halle“ in Eckernförde
Kunst in der Halle (www.kunstinderhalle.de) is the name of the exhibition that the Carlshöhe Nature & Culture Association has set up for visitors in a sailboat hangar between July 19 and August 25. On August 3, I performed there with jazz and klezmer musician Gerhard Breier.
Jan-Christian Petersen read poems such as The Oldtown, Bristle Brush Path and Forrest Gills. (Some are available in his English Poetry Shop.) Among other works, he recited the Wind Catcher. Jan used his prosaic poem „Copenhagen“ inspired by the Danish Nazi resistance fighter and composer Else Marie Pade to talk about Liberation Day May 8, which has been a day of remembrance in the state of Schleswig-Holstein for several years.
There was then a short story about art and culture based on the fictional Russian antiques dealer Dimitri Lobanov. Lobanov provides old furniture with fake stories in order to sell them to Americans, such as Catherine the Great’s bed to a New York real estate billionaire. There were many references to German-American history, American literature and world events.
Expression of Thanks
I would like to thank Anna Brunner-Mocka, Thomas Claus-Schmiedehausen and the dedicated artists for a great organization of the event. Thanks to Ingrid Schmuck for the photos and many thanks also to Gerhard Breier for his cooperation on a varied evening that was well received by a wonderful audience.
